2011Salon Experience
I had my hair done the other day and I have to say that I am coming to love the salon experience, even if it always ends with an obscenely large bill.
A couple of years ago, I came to the conclusion that a wig was too artificial-feeling, too hot, and too fake-looking to allow me to be comfortable and feel natural being Janie. I don’t judge others, and I realize many tgirls feel differently about this – or have no choice – but the way I come at this thing personally, internally, it really became a matter of self-respect for me.
So, I started by trying to find a sympathetic place where they would cut my hair in such a way that it could pass for a girl’s do, but still was a serviceable male cut.
A few sessions of that led me to the conclusion that if I was ever going to be happy with my girl look, my hair was going to have to be distinctly feminine. I wasn’t going to reshape my face surgically, so my hair had to do it for me.
So, I took a risk and, in spite of knowing I was going to get some abuse from my male friends, I nevertheless decided to drop all pretense of a male hairstyle and have my hair done as a woman (and then do whatever I had to do to make it work as well as possible to survive as a guy).
Since then, getting my hair done has become both more enjoyable and more expensive.
It is one of life’s lovely sensuous experiences to have someone playing with your hair. The process of doing my hair may be work for my (exotically beautiful) stylist, but from my perspective it amounts to a nice long session of someone playing with my hair.
That I come in looking like a frazzled frizzed-out freak and leave as a perfectly presentable and poised pixie is not only a major bonus but, well, the point of the exercise, right?

Simply gorgeous, Janie. I have to admit that I really like your “frazzled frizzed-out freak” look (seems Ilve told ya many times), but this is so wonderfully feminine on you. You really look great!
I whole-heartedly agree with your views on wigs and feeling natural. Guess that’s why I’m going with my natural gray now. I’m considering the exact process you describe…finding a sympathetic salon for a cut that will work either way…..any suggestions from your experience??

Like I said, Shannon, I pretty much gave up on the “either way” kind of cut before too long. I found I didn’t look feminine enough and my hair was still not exactly right for my guy side. So, I just do a feminine cut, and then try to tie it back for guy mode, or even go for the beach bum look, which works pretty well when my hair is curly.

The stairway shot reveals you to be the woman you are. So don’t fight it, go with it! Seize the opportunity when you can—I wish I had.

I take such advice borne of personal experience very seriously. Thanks, Janet.

I am dating myself, but when I was younger I had rather long, dirty blonde hair, rather hippie style. One of my greatest desires was to walk into a hair salon, and say “I want a cut just like Jane Fonda’s in Klute, only as a frosted blond.” At the time the style was referred to as “neat but naughty”. I think I would have looked fantastic. Of course I would have wanted to put on my makeup ( with Bronze Goddess frosted lipstick), big dangling earrings, my cute white peasants blouse, cut off denim shorts, 3″ Candy wooden slides and show off my new “do” pushing a shopping cart down the produce isle! But I never did. Glad to see that you are able to enjoy the pleasure. Wearing “hair pieces” was the last hang up I had to get over. As you said, it did not feel natural. But when I realized how big they were in the GG world, I came to enjoy them/
Love your new look.

Thanks Trish. It doesn’t seem to have slowed you up at all, so it’s all good!

I have always enjoyed how bouncy and lovely your hair was ,Janie, sometimes it covers one eye for that really sexy peek a boo look. Dale

Nice ! Now start using a leave-In conditioner so that it stays that way .

“She’s just dressed in a tank top and jeans and those Birkenstock sandals riding a bike somewhere, just in nothing, just whatever. She’s gorgeous. She’s just so beautiful, and she had to do nothing to be beautiful. It didn’t matter what she wore. She was feminine. You knew she was feminine from 10 miles away, and it didn’t matter. I thought about how I would look if I dressed like that. I’d look like a dock worker.”
Sure you would…… not.

I guess each of us sees her own flaws a bit more critically. Thanks for not seeing what I see 😉

so cute of a look and so lucky you are. I have no choice but wigs as where I work i can’t have long hair whgich would be so awesome. the one good thing about wigs is I can change my look and style, long or short and also the color just by choosing a wig. still having ones own hair would be awesome.
Good luck
Susan
